I read this post by PCUSA Pastor Neil Craigan a couple of days ago. I keep thinking about it over and over. Good stuff! Here is the link Questions???

He also posted a quote by Brennan Manning.

"The institutional church has become a wounder of healers rather than a healer of the wounded."

Man, that will preach!

(PS: I don't know Neil Craigan. Hope I haven't tarnished him by linking his website.)

  1. I would like to argue with that, but I’m reminded of the truth of that statement everytime I go to a session meeting and listen to elders kill dreams rather than encourage.
I am reminded of the truth when I serve on an Administrative Commission for Presbytery and have to struggle with a church that has learned anger rather than love.
I am reminded of the truth when Pastor Appreciation Month rolls around, and no one notices.
I am reminded of the truth when the Presbyterian Layman arrives.

  2. There is an old Mark Heard song where the chorus goes:
    Everybody loves a holy war.
Draw the lines, claim divine assitance.
Slay those who show the most resistance.
    Everybody loves a holy war.
Of course, reading the New Testament, I wonder if it has ever really been otherwise.
