My grandfather was a pastor, and my dad told me that his grandpa always bought his next car just before taking his next call so that it would not be an issue with the next congregation. Fascinating!

I’m not a pastor or in full time ministry. It would be presumptuous for any believer to tell another believer what kind of car or anything else they should drive. I would only encourage all believers to remember that the Lord will judge how we use the resources entrusted to us. While I am concerned about the materialism that is evident in much of the church, the Lord can bring correction through the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
As for me – I say go for the corvette. 🙂 -

Actually I think the central question for what a pastor drives is actually what should a Christian drive. What makes something unacceptable for a pastor and not for everyone else? This whole question speaks volumes to the rampant clericalism alive in our churches. -
Nah Mike: I’m partial to the ’67 in black, with the 427 big block and the LT-1 trannie.
Still not good enough for a “pastor’s car” though — would need to rebuild with an Edlebrock tunnel ram manifold, a Holly 850 4-barrel carb.(gas mileage? Who knows from gas mileage man!) then go with a Crane high-lift cam, new drop-forged pistons, maybe Hooker headers and thrush side pipes.
You know, a package set up so when I leave the session meeting and crank it up, it blows holes in the asphalt of the parking lot! Be a good conversation item with visitors asking about all the rubber marks where the parking lot exit meets the road.
(A guy’s gotta dream right? So why have I spent most of my adult life in used pickups so I can haul gear around?) 🙂
