East-West Social Justice Turf War? is a hilarious piece at the Wittenburg Door about competition in the evangelical social justice world. I was afraid it would come to this.
Jim Wallis, editor-in-chief of social justice magazine Sojourners was injured Friday in an attack he is claiming came from a direct "hit" ordered by Ron Sider, editor of the competing social justice magazine, Prism.
…..
Elsewhere, Philadelphia native Tony Campolo has given his endorsement to Wallis. "I've met Jimmy, and he is dope. His thoughts on moral budgeting is dope. I can't believe Sider would stoop to this. Much love to you, Wally-J. I'm prayin' for you. Eas' SIDE!!!"
…..
Evangelical leaders fear this is only the beginning, and some fear an all-out social justice war. Tensions are expected to run high at next month's Social Justice Awards ceremony, where both Sider and Wallis are scheduled to be present. Organizers are increasing security and hoping to ease tensions by focusing on common ground.
Says organizer Brian McLaren, "Hey, we all hate George Bush, right? Peace out, y'all!"
