The World Gone MAD!!!

Is it the Avian flu?

Has an evil scientist found a way to make billions go crazy?

Has global warming finally overheated human brains?

No! It's just the FIFA World Cup! Thirty-two nations, thirty days, and one World Cup.

Today begins that quadrennial leap into soccer madness. So as an American who has been playing and watching soccer for thirty years (much more watching than playing in recent years), I feel it is incumbent upon me to get my American friends up to speed.

You can follow the World Cup by clicking on my World Cup logo at the top of the right sidebar. For Team USA info, just click here. Team USA is ranked in a tie for 5th out of the thirty-two teams, along with Spain. Ahead of them are Brazil, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Mexico.

I have selected three video clips for your viewing pleasure. First, I give you this Nike ad for all those snobbish Yanks who look down their nose at soccer.

Second, here is 3.5 minutes of Team USA qualifying play highlights.

Finally, here is a great Pepsi commercial with David Beckham.

Now, let us all stand together and sing the international soccer anthem.

Ooohlay
Ohlay Ohlay Ohaly
Oohlaaaay
Oohlaaaay….

(Let the games begin!)

What is your theological justification for statements like:
    Ooohlay
    Ohlay Ohlay Ohaly
    Oohlaaaay
    Oohlaaaay…. ????????????????

  4. Ps 98:4
“Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises.” NRSV
The futbol scripture lesson for the US Team (who starts play in just 3 hours) can be found in Isaiah 40:31.
    Isa 40:31
“…they shall mount up with wings like eagles ,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.”
    NRSV
