Mainline denominations losing impact on nation

Mainline denominations losing impact on nation is an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette today (Hat Tip to Reformed Angler).

The Empty Tomb study showed that liberal Protestant denominations in 1968, defined as those belonging to the National Council of Churches, had 26.5 million members, or about 13.2 percent of the country's population. By 2003, that had shrunk to 6.8 percent while the U.S. population grew 45 percent during the same period.

The article gives some good history of what has been happening to the mainliners and their prospects for the future.

  1. I’m not so sure that it’s losing the impact on the nation that’s the problem. I think it’s more losing our connection with the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit that is the problem!

  2. And if we are losing our connection with the triune God then let us pray we will NOT have an impact on the nation.
