Today is Red Friday, or Chiefs Friday in Kansas City. The NFL Kansas City Chiefs open their season on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. I don't know how they do things in other NFL cities, but everybody wears Red on Friday and puts on their best Chiefs attire in Kansas City. Chiefs' charities go out to the major intersections in town and sell copies of the Kansas City Star, with the proceeds going to charity. The intersection below is two blocks from my house, and I snapped these shots toward the end of rush hour.
The intersection of Southwest Trafficway/31st St/Karnes Blvd.
In the picture below, the canine got a little testy when the X-Factor guy got too close to his owner's car.
I don't know if you can tell from the picture at this scale, but the woman in the car in the car is wearing a red t-shirt, the guy in the pickup has his chiefs cap on, and the guy in the SUV has his Chiefs' jersey on.
This guy was sporting a Carson Palmer (Bengals' Quarterback) jersey with arrows through it from every side.
This guy was into some serious costuming.
I had a picture of a guy who drove by flying Oakland Raiders flags (the Chiefs' archenemy), but this is a family-friendly blog, and I try to avoid publishing images of graphic violence and mayhem. Melissa, Isaac (our 14-year-old tabby), and I will be watching the game Sunday (Although Isaac will be cheering for the Bengals. He is partial to striped cats.)
When you live in a city where the only other major sport is the Royals, the start of football season is a big deal!
