From Yahoo! News: Humans living far beyond planet's means: WWF (WWF is World Wildlife Foundation. Not to be confused with the venerable World Wrestling Federation.)
BEIJING (Reuters) – Humans are stripping nature at an unprecedented rate and will need two planets' worth of natural resources every year by 2050 on current trends, the WWF conservation group said on Tuesday.
The article mentions that the four horsemen of the apocalypse are saddled up and waiting at the starting gate. Okay. Not really. But this opening observation discredits the entire report. It is just absurd.
If it takes two planets worth of resources in a little more than forty years, will we need one planet's resources a year in about 20 years? This means that at least 20 years before that, things will be going critical, with prices for these vanishing commodities rapidly accelerating through the roof, and the world's economies will be in global inflationary collapse! But wait… that would be today.
There is no question there are problems, and precisely how adaptation will occur is not clear. Less pollution, much less CO2, and better conservation would be good starts. Renewable energy is critical. But enough with the hyperbole already.
