Every time something like this comes up my mind goes to David. You know the guy, the one who commits adultery, has the husband murdered and keeps it all quiet until God reveals it to a prophet. You know the guy, the one that God says was a man after his heart.
The key is repentance, what happens now, the issue is not the sin but the response to the revelation of the sin. Will he be fully honest, will he set up accountability as Bill Clinton did with Campolo, McDonald and ??? (I don’t remember the 3rd guy who met with him)or will he simply disappear?
I agree, Neil. Often the biggest measure of a man or woman is not how they handle success but how they handle humiliating failure and error. ALL of us experience it from time to time, just not in quite so public a way.
David suffered horrible consequences for his sins but God was still able to use him in mighty ways. Haggard and the Church have a wonderful opportunity model repentance, grieving, grace and restoration. Let us pray it comes to pass.
