Ted Gossard tagged me, and I’m supposed to give you five odd facts about myself that most would not know.
1. I am a ninth great-grandson of the Rev. John Cotton (c. 1585-1652), who boarded a ship in the dead of night and sailed to Boston, where he became the influential leader of the fledgling church in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. “Emerging church” stuff runs in my genes.
2. When I was about 13, I traded a guy a baseball bat, a glove, and a couple of other small items for about 500 baseball cards. A few of those cards (which I still own) are now worth more than $1,000.
3. I was in Who’s Who in college, and they had a special section in the yearbook devoted to the honorees. They featured two of us per page. The guy I was paired with was convicted last spring of a bizarre murder that occurred in 1982. The case received considerable national coverage.
4. I played soccer in college and three years of intramural soccer in graduate school. I never had a serious injury in all that time until the 80th minute of the last intramural game, where I seriously dislocated my knee attempting a hurry-up thrown-in on wet grass.
5. The only state of the Continental US I have not been to is Louisiana.
I am tagging Denis Hancock, John Lunt, Bob Robinson, Russell Smith, and Bradley Wright.
