Maybe you have seen this story reported today, Company Recalls Peanut Butter After Salmonella Outbreak:

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – ConAgra Foods Inc. told consumers to discard certain jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter after the spread was linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened almost 300 people nationwide.

Lids of jars with a product code beginning "2111'' can be returned to ConAgra for a refund, the company said….

Well, Mrs. Kronicle went to the cupboard and pulled out the peanut butter. What did she find?

Bingo! Double winner! With my Wile E. Coyote luck, I am guessing this is as close as I will get to winning the lottery. (Of course, you would have to play the lottery to win it.)

    Dang! Congrats!! 🙂
    I usually buy Peter Pan but last time I picked up the store brand, so there are no numbers on the lid. It’s probably made in the same factory anyways.

    I only buy Peter Pan. Its weird but it is one of the few foods I’m really brand loyal to. I have no idea who makes the generic stuff.

    Michael, I know this goes beyond your post, but the point of brand loyalty is really an interesting one. We are so weird when it comes to stuff like that. I have no problem asking for generic prescription meds, but I HAVE to buy Head & Shoulders shampoo!
