Presbyterian News Service: Longtime PC(USA) executive dies in traffic accident

LOUISVILLE — Memorial services for the Rev. Roger Harp, a longtime presbytery and synod executive in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) will be held Feb. 23 in Grand Island, NE. Harp died Feb. 18 in a traffic accident on Interstate 80 while on his way to pick up his wife, Carolyn, in Lincoln, NE. He was 58. …

Roger was the Executive Presbyter of Heartland Presbytery when I was presbytery moderator in 2001. I had the opportunity to work extensively with him. He left Heartland Presbytery a few years ago to become a Synod Exec. but had just returned to Nebraska to pastor I church. I saw him last fall at a meeting, and we enjoyed catching up. Roger had a pastor's heart and was one of the most affirming people I have ever known. I hope you will keep Roger's family and friends in your prayers. He will be missed by many.

It’s so hard when a good person’s time seems arbitrarily cut short. I’m sorry.

  2. He was my youth minister in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I will never forget his presence the night my Mother died. I was 12. That was the night I found out what Holiness looks like.

  3. Thank you for that testimony, Elaine. I know there are countless more out there like it. That is was the type of person he was.
