All Ears (PCUSA Special Offerings)

Presbyterian News Service: All Ears (PCUSA Special Offerings)

LOUISVILLE — A Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) task force charged with reviewing the pattern of the denomination’s church wide special offerings is seeking feedback about the offerings.

“We are deeply committed to hearing from anyone in the church who may have concerns, dreams or suggestions about the special offerings,” said the Rev. Eileen Lindner, chair of the Special Offerings Review Task Force (SORTF).”

The task force convenes every four years to evaluate the pattern of church wide special offerings and recommend any changes in that pattern. The four offerings are the One Great Hour of Sharing, received during Lent; the Pentecost Offering, received on Pentecost Sunday; the Peacemaking Offering, received the first Sunday in October; and the Christmas Joy Offering, received during Advent.  ….

I have suggested a new offering for the past three years called the Kruse Bahama Vacation Offering. For some reason, I have made little headway.

  1. Remember how we got into trouble with our unauthorized New Covenant Special Offerings Diversion for New Church Development? We’ll be paying that back for the next several years!

  2. Yes, last year we had a PCUSA employee who attempted to appropriate funds for her own special causes but the internal controls caught it. Always important to have controls when dealing with this kind of money.
