Groucho Marx Quote About Kansas City

From Quotations Page:

"It isn't necessary to have relatives in Kansas City in order to be unhappy." Groucho Marx (1890-1977)

Does anyone have any clue what this quote means?

He’s equating having relatives and living in Kansas City. Relatives make you unhappy, at least according to Groucho, just like living in Kansas City.

  2. My initial take was that to “have relatives in Kansas City” is what makes you unhappy. That made no sense. Your interpretation makes much more sense.
