Royals pound Cleveland

KansasCity.com: Royals pound Cleveland

Whatever the challenge, right now, the Royals have the answer.

It took a muscle-flexing breakout Wednesday night from an inconsistent attack to pick up a struggling Scott Elarton. OK, no problem.

The Royals hit a season-high four homers and rallied to an 11-7 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Kauffman Stadium.

“Sometimes, you have to pick a pitcher up,” second baseman Mark Grudzielanek said, “and, lately, we haven’t been doing it. But I think we’re getting better. You instill some confidence in these guys and anything is possible.”

Confidence is soaring.

The Royals got their eighth victory in 10 games by shrugging off an early three-run deficit. They mounted a balanced 14-hit attack that helped produce a 7-3 lead by the end of the second inning.

Be still my beating heart. Could MLB's most underachieving team of the last few years have finally gained some traction? There are now four teams with worse records than the Royals. A record that leaves them somewhere in the middle of the MLB pack would be a welcomed change. Stay tuned.

  1. Ha! Losers! Taste the wrath of Pittsburgh, at 19-27 over your miserable, puny, 19-28 Royals! Despite your recent good form, we still stink slightly less!
Seriously, man, I’m envious. Fifteen losing seasons, assuming this one goes the way it’s headed. Fifteen. Dang.

  2. The existence of the Pirates is the one thing that keeps me from total dispair.
