Presbyterian News Service: Clifton Kirkpatrick won’t seek fourth term as stated clerk
LOUISVILLE— The Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, stated clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), announced Monday (Sept. 10) that he has decided not to seek another term as stated clerk.
Kirkpatrick’s current term will conclude at the end of the 218th General Assembly (2008) in San Jose, CA, next June. …
Just a quick question – do you think that Mr. Kirkpatrick is not seeking re-election due to an overwhelming desire to administrate at WARC, or is he following the advice of many in this denomination who have written and spoken to him personally about what his running an re-election will possibly construe, or do you think that he can see what’s coming in the future of the PC(USA) – possible general course change at the next GA?

Twelve years is a long time when it spans a chaotic era like the one he has presided over and I know he has always had a heart for ecumenical and international mission. What he says all makes sense to me. Every decision like this has a combination of considerations and I have no idea how heavily other concerns figured in.
