Kansas City Star: Headmaster explains decision on woman referee
ST. MARYS, Kan. | The headmaster of St. Mary’s Academy said the decision to keep a woman from officiating at a boys’ basketball game was not about whether she’d have authority over boys.
Instead, the Rev. Vicente A. Griego said in a news release that the “formation of adolescent boys is best accomplished by male role models, as the formation of girls is best accomplished by women. Hence in boys’ athletic competitions, it is important that the various role models (coaches and referees) be men.” …
