Wired: Website Lets You Send a Post-Rapture E-Mail to Friends 'Left Behind'

If millions of Christians suddenly disappear from the face of the Earth as the opening act for Armageddon, Threat Level thinks most nonbelievers will be too busy freaking the hell out to check their e-mail. But if they do log in, now they can be treated to some post-Rapture needling from their missing friends and loved ones, courtesy of web startup YouveBeenLeftBehind.com.

For just $40 a year, believers can arrange for up to 62 people to get a final message exactly six days after the Rapture, that day when — according to Christian end times dogma — Christians will be swept up to heaven, while doubters are left behind to suffer seven years of Tribulation under a global government headed by the Antichrist.

"You've Been Left Behind gives you one last opportunity to reach your lost family and friends for Christ," reads the website, which is purportedly run "by Christians, for Christians." The domain name is registered through an anonymous proxy service, presumably to protect the proprietors from the Forces of Darkness, and not because they're up to anything shady. …

…The company, You've Been Left Behind LLC, didn't respond to an e-mail query, raising the obvious question of whether the Rapture has already begun. Developing …

  1. The e-mails will be triggered when three of the site’s five Christian staffers “scattered around the U.S.” fail to log in for six days in a row . . .
The e-mails could also be triggered if the three of the five “staffers” abscond to Brazil with the money. Would that count as a rapture?

  2. LOL. I’m sure they’ll be in a state of rapture in Brazil.

  3. For $40 I could tell them they are wasting their money 🙂
Man…in a twisted way I hope their email system gets 0wn3d and those emails get sent out by some teenage hacker.

I so did not need to hear this story. ;-(
It’s things like this that made me almost quit calling myself Christian in my youth.
Nothing good will come of this. The best they can hope for is that nothing bad will come of it. That’s always a “stop” sign in my book, but then I’m not a pre-tribulationist.
    Sigh.

  5. "You've been Left Behind" …..
….. and I haven't!!! Too bad for you!!!

Seems like there's no end to make-a-fast-buck operators.

I note they'll store 250 MB of documents that they'll mail out for you – to 12 (or 50) addresses. I know more than a few ISPs who would be Very Annoyed if a few hundred MB started rolling in.

More than that, if the Standard Scenario plays out, after the Tribulation, we're going to have a lot more things to worry about than looking at our eMail.

This is going to be a magnet for spammers. Someone else will do the work!!!

It's been registered by one of the discount domain providers – they're paying about $20/year for the name. They seem to be located in Texas.

  6. cute idea!

  7. In case of rapture, Ill send an e-mail

Some entrepreneurs who know a little about dispensational theology have set up a website to send e-mails to those left behind after the rapture removes all Christians from the earth. Somehow I doubt that non-believers heading into the Great Tribu…
