Here are some pictures I took yesterday and today at the Presbyterian Church, USA, General Assembly in San Jose, CA, right now.
Here is a view of the platform from my assigned seat as a corresponding member.
The folks you see are the voting commissioners. I sit at the very front section of the middle section reserved for corresponding members and the press. The back section is for the observers. It's very Jerusalem temple-like, actually. There are the inner courts, the outer courts, and the plaza outside. 🙂 Here is the view looking back from the seat during a break.
During events in the exhibit hall yesterday, I ran into Presbymergent blogger Jim Bonewald (The Church Geek), a commissioner this year. It was nice to meet him in person. (He is on the right here. The disheveled one on the left wearing a shirt made of recycled aluminum is me.)
Here is a picture of Bruce Reyes-Chow during the question-and-answer period of the moderator elections. He was elected moderator on the second ballot. Bruce is a presbymergent guy who, I'm guessing, is somewhere around 40 years old, give or take a few years. Congratulations to Bruce (I think.) I look forward to working with him on the General Assembly Council over the next two years.
These John Calvin masks were among my favorite trinkets in the exhibit hall.
Worship this morning was held in a hall across the street. I was late, so the seat I got gave me this view.
Here is a view looking back toward the crowd.
Hopefully, I'll have more to report on over the coming week.
