Prison Entrepreneurship Program

One of the programs I've devoted time to over the years is the First Step Fund, a program offered through Fast Trac at the Kauffman Foundation. As the website says:

"First Step Fund is a nonprofit agency that has been providing business training and support to low- to moderate-income entrepreneurs in the metro Kansas City area since 1994."

I was one of the original business counselors in 1994, and I've volunteered in various ways with the program ever since. It is a great program.

A more recent addition to the Fast Trac family of programs is Prison Entrepreneurship Program. The BBC just did a story (Turning crack dealers into chief executives) on Catherine Rohr, who founded PEP because of the calling she sensed from God. She left her Wall Street venture capital firm to teach convicts business skills. It is a truly inspiring story. Read the article. Below are some clips I believe were made with Willow Creek's Leadership Summit program.
