Commentators find deeper meaning in British singer's YouTube popularity.

London – It was to her elderly mother, sometime before she passed away, that Susan Boyle pledged she would "do something" with her life.

Two years on from that loss, she honored that promise with a now almost legendary appearance on a British television talent show.

  1. In some respects, while her recognition is great, Boyle stands in the perilous position of now being in the spotlight of the vicious English media. Already the papparazzi are following here movements and our dirth of chap and nasty newspapers (if they deserve that name) are printing stories about her appearance and physical characteristics. She’s now being quoted as saying she wants to improve her look . . . I dread the crushing mockery that will ensue from a press machine hell bent on scandal.

  2. So the media goes after Boyle. The interesting question is why? Is the press somehow leading society in a destructive direction, or following it, with its “kill the hero” antics? What does it say about us?

  3. I like your take on the press, Michael.
Thank you for the link. I’d heard rumors of her, and her performance was truly beautiful. Too bad the world is not currently conducive to her beauty.
