What if our senses paid equal attention to every noise in our home, the music coming from our kids room, the TV in family room, the conversation we are trying to have with our spouse, the hum of the refrigerator, the churning of the dishwasher, the noise from the street outside… We would quickly enter sensory overload and be completely incapacitated. Selective sensory perception is an important part of life, but we have to make sure we apply the right filters so we can experience the world as it is supposed to be experienced.
