  1. It took me a while to get around to this, but it’s a fascinating argument. It’s so funny, because he seemed to vascillate unpredictably between drawing a roadmap to utopia and to all out conflict. He comfortably portrays oil pipelines as salvation to the Middle East and Chinese Imperialism as dangerous as Japan’s in ’36. But I’m not entirely sure he meant to create those particular deep, dangerous undertones in his talk.
    My pessimism shows through again, I guess.

  2. I liked how he highlighted the impacts of borders. I think his overall idea that the more interdependent we become the less destructive conflict we are likely to have and greater well-being. I think his pipeline example was illustrate a possible way to create interdependence instead of imperialism.
