Crazy Finish at Michigan High School Football Game

Yahoo: Crazy Finish at Michigan High School Football Game

Quick lesson in high school football. The game isn't over until the official blows the whistle on the final play.

Canton (Michigan) Plymouth High learned that the hard way earlier this month.

The school thought it had defeated Westland (Michigan) John Glenn when it blocked a last-second field goal attempt. But when its players ran off the field in celebration, none of the players realized that the ball hadn't crossed the line of scrimmage and was still in play.

No official had blown the ball dead.

So while Wilson celebrated, John Glenn's Tony Wilton alertly picked up the ball and ran 33-yards for the winning score.

It's a play, Wilton will never forget. Here's how it went down….

I think there is a life lesson in this story somewhere.

Some days no matter what you do you lose.

  2. I watched this a couple of times. My question is whether #87 was already kneeling in the ground when he picked up the ball. If so, then wasn’t the play dead right at that spot?
    (Hmmm . . . are we off-topic now?)

  3. I don’t know. I can’t tell for sure if his knee is down or if is scooping it up as he gets up. I don’t think we could overturn it on the video evidence alone. 🙂

I go to Plymouth (“losing team”) and was at the game and I agree it was a really cheap call by the ref… they basically just gave the game to John Glenn because it was their homecoming. GO CATS!
