Yahoo Finance: Walmart to Launch Straight Talk Exclusively, Nationwide

BENTONVILLE, Ark., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Dedicated to providing families affordable wireless solutions, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT – News) announces today it will launch Straight Talk, a new solution in no-contract cellular, exclusively at more than 3,200 Walmart stores nationwide starting October 18, 2009. Straight Talk will bring to the market a new low price for no-contract wireless service with two prepaid plans now available to customers nationwide at $30 and $45 a month. Straight Talk will only be available in Walmart stores and online at http://www.Walmart.com and http://www.StraightTalk.com.

The average U.S. adult spends $78 on his or her cell phone bill to receive 1,000 minutes a month.* By switching to the $30 Straight Talk plan, for example, the average 1,000 minutes-per-month consumer could save more than $500 per year and still be on a reliable nationwide network.

To help drive down no-contract wireless pricing for customers, Walmart will launch Straight Talk providing customers the following two options:

Straight Talk "All You Need" 30-day Plan that includes the following for only $30 a month:

  • 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts and 30MB of mobile web access

It’s the best. I’m very happy with Straight Talk and am impressed with their coverage on Verizon.
To me, the $30 – 1,000 minutes, 1,000 texts deal is unbeatable. I travel and have never had a problem.
You get what you pay for, on in the case of Straight Talk, MORE than you pay for!
    Love it!

  2. I have the unlimited $45 and I think it’s the best deal out there (especially given the fact that I used to pay double with Verizon for less minutes but practically the same service!)

Straight Talk is the best deal around, hands down! I use the Unlimited Plan which is only $45 for unlimited texts and calls. Plus it is on the Verizon network which = AWESOME coverage! I am so glad that Walmart decided to launch this prepaid plan nationwide, it is such a wonderful plan and is saving people tons of $$$!

Straight Talk really is a great deal. I too have the unlimited $45 use plan and it is so refreshing to not have to deal with pages of bills or overage fees. I have unlimited data, texting, and calls on the dependable Verizon network that Straight Talk luckily utilizes. Even the selection of phones is better than I would have expected with a prepaid company – they even have a Smart Phone comparable to the IPhone. Best of all, Straight Talk is saving me over $50 a month and that means $1,200 over the next two years my previous carrier would have charged me for. Straight Talk saves my bank account!
