Improvements in Energy Efficiency and Consumption

From Carpe Diem

   Energy2

The first chart shows a straight downward slope for BTUs per GDP, while the second show a sharp decline in total energy consumption. That tells me that the total energy decline is almost entirely due to the recession. However, starting about 1996, you see a slight flattening of the rate of increase. Seeing how this plays out in the coming years will be interesting.

  1. Michael,
Could some of this be attributed to the improved products from industry, as well as the efforts of conservation and limited use of high energy products?
