There is a lot of truth to this. There is also the issue that when an apocalyptic future is forecast with only a radical (and ultimately unrealistic) reorganization of human existence offered as the solution, people experience alarm fatigue. It's easier to tune out altogether than to do a few things that might improve the situation.
