The Irrationality of Politics (And Theology?)

This is an excellent TED video about irrationality in politics. One of Michael Huemer's key points is that the cost of rationality is high, with a minimal reward for rationality. I would also add that there is frequently a high reward for irrationality in the form of peer bonding and a sense of belonging to a like-minded community. He is talking about politics, but I think there is a significant overlap between theology and church life.

  1. Hmmmmm
Wonder if he has ever read “Whose Justice? Which Rationality?” by Alasdair McIntyre?

  2. I haven’t. Care to elaborate?

  3. Not ignoring you. Will respond soon.
If you are at NEXT I’ll introduce myself.

  4. I made to the last Next but I won’t make it to the next Next. 😉 I hope it is a great time and that they expand it to include a few ruling elders this time.
