Going to the Little Apple

LilappleI wanted to let you know that I am heading west to the Little Apple, Manhattan, Kansas, this Saturday. I'll be hanging out with old friends from Wellspring for an evening of conversation about globalization and Christianity led by yours truly. The event starts at 6:00 pm. at the Judd and Nancy Swihart home living, a few miles west of Manhattan near Keats. If you will be in the area and want to come, email me, and I will give you directions. It is a potluck, but we can always squeeze in a couple more.

Wildcat Gooooo Wildcats!!! [Imagine the band playing "Cannonball Express" for full effect.]

  1. I wish I could be there, but at that time we will be driving through Arkansas heading for Houston TX to spend Thanksgiving week with my folks.
Remember me to any who were there in the 80s.

  2. I’ll do it, Denis. Drive safe. I have a brother who lives in Houston and I know that is a long drive.

  3. Accept best wishes for a great time from a ’54 KSU EE grad. Manhattan is also my home town, and it’s been too long since we’ve been back. Love those flint hills.

  4. Thanks Dave. EE huh! My wife is an engineer (industrial) as is my brother-in-law (EE). I have several engineer friends. Some of them I actually like. **grin**
Was Swannies Donuts around when you were there? It was bakery downtown that stayed open until like 3 am. You go to Swannies back door to get the donuts right out of the oven. At 1:00 in the morning the line would go out the door down the alley and into the street.
They tore down the store to build the shoppig mall. A friend of mine and I went there just after they had knocked down part of the buildings on the block and found the purple Swannie’s back door unharmed. We spirited it away to a secret location. A few years later it was missing. We were planning on auctioning it at Christies in a few years and retiring. So if you or anyone else reading this knows who stole Swannies back door, I want it back! John B. and I stole it first, fair and square.

  5. Michael,
I ran across this page on a random search. I am a church planting pastor here in Manhattan and am interested in finding out more about this Wellspring. Could you, at your convenience, let me in on the secret?

  6. Hi David,
Wellspring formed more than twenty years ago and has undergone a couple of redirections since the early days when I started there. I would suggest giving Nancy Swihart a call at Manhattan Christian College a call. She could tell you more about this group.
Also, I know of at least one Wellspringer who checks this blog. There maybe others. You could post here or click on his name under his comment and contact him there.
David if you have not luck getting Nancy and no one contacts you let me know and I will see what I can do.
Best Wishes on the start up. I checked out your website. Very Cool!
