‘Shake it out for Jesus’: Churches co-opt hip-hop

Hiphopchurch_1 'Shake it out for Jesus': Churches co-opt hip-hop. According to this article, even Lutherans are discovering hip-hop. I haven't been to a hip-hop "church" service, but I have been to youth camp services that were hip-hop. The article mentions a book being released by Efrem Smith and Phil Jackson called The Hip-hop Church: Connecting With the Movement Shaping Our Culture. I haven't read the book yet, but I will be interested to see what it says.

What do you think the chances are that at one of our PCUSA General Assemblies, we will have a moderator leading worship chanting:

"Put your hands in the air! Wave 'em like you just don't care! Come on now, come on now!"

  1. LOL!

  2. Ah but wouldn’t it be fantastic if it happened? Oh, but that wouldn’t be properly orderly now would it? Oh well.

  3. Of course, the real issue for Presbyterians would not only be the cultural disconnect. Even worse, they might be mistaken for charismatics! **grin**

  4. As a charismatic should I resent that remark? >:-)

  5. Don’t be offended, John. You must always keep in mind the source. **grin**
