Bengals and Catnip: A Sunday in Paradise

Well, I promise not to make a habit of this, but I got some pictures of our cat Sunday that just had to be shared. Isaac is our fourteen-year-old tabby. He is essentially my shadow. Where I go in the house, he follows. On Sunday, he and I assumed our usual positions for watching the Chiefs game.

Being a striped cat, Isaac is partial to the Bengals, but by the third quarter, he grew bored with the thrashing the Bengals were giving the Chiefs. So Isaac decided to go for a little catnip action with the new catnip mouse I got him the day before. After a couple of minutes of flopping back and forth on the mouse and covering it with cat slobber, he struck this pose.

I talked to him and tried to get a rise out of him, but he just laid there motionless with a glazed look in his eyes (kind of like Trent Green after getting whacked in the third quarter.) He had thoroughly drugged himself into a catnip coma. A Bengals win and catnip. He was in cat heaven.

You should also know that Isaac is often a ghost contributor to this blog. He is an expert in escatology and is well-versed in the catechisms. Although somewhat of an Emergent feline, he has found little use for dogmatics. The annoying thing is that even using paws, he makes fewer typos than I do.

    Isaac is very handsome.
I like dogs, but I’m really a cat person. My husband is the opposite, so we’ll always have at least one of each, and they’ll just have to get along. Our current cat is Felicity, an orange tiger, but her nickname is “Empress of the Universe”. If my husband doesn’t brush her right after he shaves every morning, she scolds him. Sometimes she sits in the hallway and starts yelling at him before he’s even done shaving. Since I work at home, she summons me when she’s hungry or wants a scratch. She likes very much to be held but is not a lap cat.
If you haven’t already, you must read “The Silent Meow” by Paul Gallico; should be in your local library. Has lots of photos- it’s easily finished on a Sunday afternoon- after the game of course…

LOL. Our nickname is “His Royal Stripedness.”
Isaac was never a lap cat until about two years ago when he decided my lap was a good a spot. Melissa grew up on a farm and always had tons of cats. My family did not have pets growing up but I have always loved both dogs and cats. If we had a bigger yard, I suspect we would consider a canine. It is amazing how much these furry critters get under your skin.
Thanks for the book tip. I’ll check it out.
