The ShowBuzz: Beckham Gets Big Welcome In L.A.
(AP) International soccer star David Beckham was officially welcomed to the United States by the Los Angeles Galaxy at a press conference held at California State University on Friday.
The soccer star was presented with a team jersey emblazoned with his name and the number 23 as paper streamers flew threw the air.
"First of all, I'd like to say how honored I am for so many people to come here," Beckham said. "I've always looked for challenges in my career, now my family have now moved to Los Angeles, something we're looking forward to, something we're really proud of."
Still adjusting to his new life in the U.S., Beckham corrected himself when he began to say the word football, the British term for the sport, instead of soccer.
"I'll get used to that at some point, I'm sorry," Beckham said with a laugh.
Beckham went on to say that he was looking forward to training and thanked everybody "who made my dream come true."
Beckham and his wife, Victoria, arrived Thursday night to begin their new lives in the United States. …
So will Becks and Posh be able to do for soccer what John, Paul, George, and Ringo did for Rock 'n Roll?
