Speaking of our discussions on snack economics and the threat of a depression:

Marginal Revolution, Freakonomics and a few other blogs have pointed to a recent article on the economics of panhandling, and how there are, ironically, online guides to help panhandlers maximize their profits. One bit of advice involves asking for a discrete amount of money, with the example being “I need 43 more cents to get a cup of coffee.”

    Because most citizens with spare change can relate to the desire for coffee. That’s not the case for fortified wine or crystal meth.

  2. VanSakmper beat me to it. I’d rather give a dude 43c for coffee than 5c for poison.
